Radiohead kicked off it’s North American tour this week in Miami where they debuted two new tracks, “Identikit” and “Cut A Hole”. There are some AUD recordings below that are a bit scratchy, but still worth a listen. Also of interest, they also played little known, spooky instrumental track “Meeting In The Aisle” live for the first time. There’s a vid of it below of Thom Yorke doin his thang. Lastly, look at that stage setup!
Apparently I missed the memo from Pretty Much Amazing giving this album top honors of 2011, but I’m on board now. Nerves Junior – from Louisville (what up EO!) – released their debut album As Bright As Your Nightlight last year on SonaBLAST! Records. Listeners have compared them to Radiohead, which is a lofty comparison, but these guys are legit. The album’s first track “Champagne and Peaches” takes a page right out of the “Airbag” book during the guitar interludes. “Swimmer’s Ear” is a fuzzy, sinister track that sounds a bit Damon Albarn-y at times. The title track and “Kale” and others not to be missed.
You can preview the whole album at their bandcamp website and buy the whole album for only $8. Check the video for “Swimmer’s Ear” below and take the jump for a couple more tracks.
Do yourself a favor and check out the latest release (and debut album on the New West label) Nothing Here Seems Strange from Buxton, an indie folk / roots-rock band out of the urban sprawl that is Houston, Texas. A solid listen from start to finish.
Released Jan 31, you can stream the entire album here. Particular favorites include “Lynchburg Ferry”, ”Fingertips”, and “Boy Of Nine”. If you happen to go check it out today, pretty cool to note Raleigh’s own Bowerbirds as their artist of the day on the right.
Next week, Brooklynites Sleigh Bells will drop their sophomore follow up to 2010′s Treats, but you can stream Reign of Terror at its entirety now over at The New York Times website.
The former drummer from Fleet Foxes, J. Tillman, will be releasing a solo album on May 1 called Fear Fun under the moniker Father John Misty. We don’t know much about this project yet, but here’s an interesting snippet from The Agency Group’s webpage for him:
“In the summer of 2011, Joshua Tillman abruptly left Seattle, lived in his van for two months, wrote a novel on mushrooms and unexpectedly began writing songs under the name Father John Misty in a haunted Laurel Canyon shack. “Fear Fun” was recorded in Los Angeles with Jonathan Wilson, and mixed by Phil Ek in Seattle. ”Fear Fun” will be released on Sub Pop May 1, 2012″
Check out the creepy video for the first single, “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings”, which stars Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation. If you like the track, go here and get it for free in exchange for your email address.
Greensboro native and former NC Central student Phonte dropped the much heraldedCharity Starts At Home solo album last fall, and today brings us the music video for “The Good Fight” – complete with multiple Raleigh skyline shots. Enjoy.
Oleg Mokhov is a Russian-American electronic producer based in San Fran, who travels the world creating music and remixes on his laptop (“music in a backpack” is his claim to fame). When he’s not making his own music, he’s interviewing other electronic artists (such as Com Truise and Solvent) for the BlueRize podcast network, which he co-founded. Mokhov has put out a string of EPs and remixes over the last year or so, and this past summer, he dropped his debut full-length calledHalcyon Days, which can be streamed at it’s entirety on Soundcloud. If you like downtempo / chill music like Boards of Canada, Four Tet, or Tycho, then definitely throw this album on to help you through the workday.
