Beats, Rhymes, & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Hip hop fans, get excited about the upcoming release of the rockumentary of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest, one of the most groundbreaking groups in music. Tribe released 5 gold and platinum albums in 8 years before their unexpected and dramatic split in 1998. Michael Rappaport (yeah, the white guy from Higher Learning) directs “Beats, Rymes, & Life: The Tavels of A Tribe Called Quest”, which has received official selection status at 2011 Tribeca and Sundance Film Festivals. The film chronicles their past through commentary from other hip hop artists such as Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Pharrel, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, and Mos Def, and also follows them on their 2008 reunion tour, which captures the lasting conflict between members.

The film has seen limited release so far and will be hitting NC on August 12 at the Galaxy Cinema in Cary, the Chelsea Theatre in Chapel Hill, the Manor Twin in Charlotte, and Colony Cinema 2 in Raleigh. Check the website for the full list of showings and release dates.
