ABC Rejects “Bud Light” Amphitheatre in Raleigh

The saga continues on the naming of Raleigh’s new Downtown Amphitheatre. As we reported last month, the frontrunner for the sponsor and namesake of the new amphitheatre was Anheuser-Busch with it’s $1.5M over 5 years bid. The North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission rejected the bid citing an NC law that prohibits companies in the alcohol industry to sponsor a retail establishment. N&O blogger David Menconi reports that the city hopes to close a deal on the sponsorship within the next few weeks. He also reports that money received from the Bud Light deal would have helped facilitate a replacement to the free outdoor concert series Raleigh Downtown Live that used to take place in Moore Square. Hopefully, they can sort this out soon and inject more money to pull more notable acts to the venue this fall.
