Listen to the New LCD Soundsystem Now

LCD Soundsystem’s new album, This Is Happening, is due out next month, but you can stream it on their website now. LCD Soundsystem is the brainchild of James Murphy, who co-founded DFA Records, who have brought us artists like The Juan MacLean, Hot Chip, Holy Ghost!, YACHT, and  Hercules & Love Affair.

See tracklist and our quick review after the jump…

After first listen through, it’s unclear exactly why LCD chose “Drunk Girls” as the first single from this album; it’s nowhere near the strongest track, but it is the only one that’s not 6 minutes or longer, so perhaps that’s why. The opening track, “Dance Yrself Clean” kicks things off perfectly, dropping the beat around the 3:00 minute mark. “One Touch” is excited and bouncy with a catchy hook, “One Touch is never enough / People who need people to the back of the bus.”

“All I Want” is a bit of a different path for Murphy, demonstrating his vocal ability. The music in this song sounds like a blend between a Strokes song and a Nintendo game, in the best way possible. Sounding a bit like a Hot Chip electro-ballad, “I Can Change” continues the romantic feel, but still keeps your head nodding. “You Wanted A Hit” and “Pow Pow” reach back to LCD’s party anthem style that we are all used to. “Somebody’s Calling Me” sounds a bit Beck-ish and “Home” is an excellent closer for the record, with melodic keys throughout.

All in all, This Is Happening is a great album that is happening just in time for summer.
