Lollapalooza 2010 Lineup Announced – August 6-8, Grant Park, Chicago

Lollapalooza Official Site

Lollapalooza, one of the nation’s premiere music festivals, will take place this year on August 6th-8th in Chicago’s famed Grant Park, where the festival has been held for the past 5 years.  Headliners include Soundgarden, Green Day, and Lady Gaga.  I’m not quite sure what to think of this…  Green Day may be one of my top 5 most hated bands of all-time.  Gaga-palooza??  Uh, no.  The return of Soundgarden is pretty cool, but nowhere near as cool as the return of Rage Against the Machine in 2008.  That was a no-holes-barred, kick-your-teeth-in rock and roll show, and probably one of my favorite concert experiences of all-time.  I mean, Rage almost had to stop their show because people were getting trampled when the crowd bumrushed the fences to get closer to the band as they ripped into “Testify” to open their headlining set.

As questionable as the headlining acts may seem, the undercard looks pretty damn good if you ask me.  Many of the second-tier acts should be awesome and would make for some great mid-afternoon or early evening sets.  Several of the bands that jump out to me include The Black Keys, MGMT, Phoenix, reggae icon Jimmy Cliff, 80’s rockers Devo, Yeasayer, The National, Hot Chip, Grizzly Bear, Drive-by Truckers, 90’s ganja rappers Cypress Hill, MuteMath, Mavis Staples, the xx, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Rogue Wave, The Big Pink, Dawes, Blues Traveler, and last but not least, The Constellations.  I’m pretty certain you could make a solid weekend of music out of those recommendations, and of course, kick slam it with Acknasty all weekend…
