New Orleans Bounce

New Orleans is one of the world’s most unique and amazing cities when it comes to music. With roots in European, Latin American, and African cultures, The Big Easy has borne several music styles such as jazz, funk, delta blues, and since the late ’80s, a local variant of hip-hop known as bounce music.

Galactic started in New Orleans in 1994 with an organic funk sound has evolved over the years to incorporate several other styles such as electronic, fusion, jazz, rock, and hip-hop. Galactic is touring through NC this coming week and will be stopping in Raleigh and Charlotte.  Their latest album, Ya-Ka-May, is planned for release on Tuesday (the night they are in Raleigh). The album features several established legends and younger artists from the various New Orleans genres, which promises to make a record as unique as the city itself.

Take the jump to hear two tracks from Ya-Ka-May plus a nice video about the album.

Also, I imagine if the Saints have a good night Sunday, next week could be really fun time to see this band…see you at the show. Geaux Saints.

By the way, Mardi Gras is February 16th. Make plans.
