Them Crooked Vultures at The Fillmore | Feb 10, 2010

Them Crooked Vultures is rock-n-roll’s next supergroup/power trio.  The band is comprised of Joshua Homme from Queens of the Stone Age on lead guitar/vocals, Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters/Nirvana on drums (THANK GOD!!), and John Paul Jones from a band you may have never heard of…. (cough, cough) Led Zeppelin on bass.

The band’s first single “New Fang” was released in October 2009, followed by the group’s self-titled debut album on November 17, 2009.  It debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200.

Grohl also stated in a recent interview that they are already working on a second album that will be more powerful than the first one.  The band will perform on the February 6, 2010 episode of Saturday Night Live.

The song “Elephants” is 7 mintues of pure Zeppelin-esque riffage, and is the closest thing I’ve heard to “Black Dog” has a bastard child with “Kashmir” since 1971.  That’s pretty much all you need to know about this album….
