Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – Here
Today, Edward Sharpe & TMZ release Here, their follow up to 2009′s splendid Up From Below. The 10 piece (which by the end of this blog post may be an 11 piece) band’s sophomore effort takes a bit more laid back approach to their signature sound, with folksy, atmospheric hippy hymns. “I Don’t Wanna Pray” and “Mayla” are like O Brother, Where Art Thou tracks (with updated percussion, horns). “Fiya Wata” is a soulful, call-to-prayer and the energetic “That’s What’s Up” is probably the most Up From Below-y track on the album. All in all, it’s a great listen and though it’s a slight departure from there acclaimed first album, the album showcases the band’s ability to create a timeless, unique sound.
